If you want it to be something they can do without you, without making a huge mess, just able to get it and do it whenever they want....(which is very nice to have it that way):

-Washable Markers
-Crayons (get the big box)
-One 3 subject spiral notebook per child
-Each a coloring book of choice
-Each a glue stick
-Each a pair of scissors
-a stack of colored paper of any sort
-stickers

I have tried everything in the book (you know I have) and this combo works great. Anjolee and I set this up for the kids in Colorado and it was a lifesaver.

I have an open container with a handle that has compartments (looks like a plastic tool caddy) and in it is the crayons, markers, the two glue sticks and the two scissors

Then I have the colored paper and stickers in a box with a lid.

The two spirals and coloring books are just stacked.

I keep this on top of our fridge. You could keep it on your bar OR right in the middle of the kitchen table b/c you know you don't eat at it. hahahaha.

My girls will play with this combo for a while and they do not make a mess that they can't clean up.

Don't make it too complicated. No paint, no glitter, just simple and you will be pleased, I think.

Connie's idea sounds good to me.

I have a friend who hung a "clothesline diagonally across her little girl's room up by the ceiling with clothespins hanging on it. She hangs up their craft as they do them. I'm sure every kid would like to see their stuff hung. Kind of a cute idea. She also got foam and cut it into different shapes with her daughter and hung that along the clothes line. The clothesline went right through the middle of the shapes. This is what she started with and then the other crafts could be added as they went. Make sense?

I also love the color wonder stuff b/c I don't have to worry where Atlee takes it b/c it won't make a mess.

I save most of the coffee cans, shoe boxes and tp/paper towel rolls that come our way because my 7 y/o likes to make stuff out of them.
